Winter is coming! From Norway to Spain, everyone is already wearing their coats! Nevertheless, the sun is still shining in Greece and it shines brightly on the Section in the Spotlight of December: ESN UOPA!

Dreams do in fact come true. You do not believe us? In June 2013, eight dreamers, some of them having tried the Erasmus experience, others with a passion for mobility and multicultural activities, decided to create ESN UOPA. They were determined to form part of the Network, working hard in order to become a full member section of ESN, which happened just a few months after the first members of ESN UOPA had joined forces! Nowadays, the section has 21 active members being lead by a board of six. All of them united, motivated and willing to help their incoming international students.

“Our thought and idea, is that working as an ESNer has to be fun and to enjoy ourselves through our work, so we are considering our section as a family, the Bee-family!”

One of the most important values of this section is their friendship, not only between their section members but also within their Erasmus students. Once you are in and with ESN UOPA, they do their best to make you feel like a part of their family. During their Introduction Day, this section makes sure to spend a fair amount of time in Ice-Breaking Games, where they get to know the Erasmus students as well as each other and all the members of the section.

Another example of this ESN UOPA’s willingness to bring people together and to share and care is their idea of creating a Local Platform. This event was born in order to motivate all their members to go further and reach higher, both on a national and an international level. They enjoy sharing experiences, providing information about the network and of course, having workshops and team-building sessions.

In ESN UOPA, everyone is constantly learning from each other. Erasmus students get to know a lot about the Greek culture and they have the possibility to actually live it. This section organises Greek traditional dinners, history lessons, dances, and visits to different museums and historical places in Patras and surroundings areas. ESN UOPA wants to make the international students feel like not only part of Greece, but of their own family as well.

“What makes our section unique is the fact that we actually DO care for our Erasmus students! We are there for them as their friends, their family, their brothers/sisters!”

In true Christmas spirit, this section reminds us of one of the most important values that we should not forget: to care for each other. Furthermore, they have also shown us that everything starts with an idea but it is up to you to make it happen. ESN UOPA might be a small section but by working together, it has achieved and will keep achieving big goals!

Unity makes the force, they say, but unity without a face does little - and ESN has proven this true. This year marks the 10th anniversary of ESN’s arrival in Brussels, which happened during the autumn of 2005. ESN's move to the capital of Europe was a major milestone in the development of the network, from a purely bottom-up student agglomeration of local chapters to a more structured organisation, providing more and better services to sections and exchange students from all over Europe.

A constant presence in Brussels made it possible for ESN to be recognised and quickly become one of the main players in the field of student mobility at the European level, able to influence decision-makers on the development of European learning mobility programmes and a necessary interlocutor of the European Commission and other institutions in the field of higher education and student mobility.

Conference on the 20th Anniversary of the Erasmus programme.

It wasn’t long  until the first results came, to showcase the presence of ESN in Brussels and its meaning for a higher success in the organisation’s mission. In 2007, ESN celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Erasmus programme with a series of important events, including a conference on the future of Erasmus attended by a former European Commission Vice-President, Margot Walström,  former Commissioner Jan Figel, National Representatives and a group of dedicated ESN members. Some very vivid memories were made that day when all together they blew out 20 candles on the Erasmus birthday cake.

The celebrations for the 20th anniversary of Erasmus then progressed, featuring more than 300 “Erasmus Days” all over Europe. It included an online platform for sharing stories and testimonals of Erasmus alumni, and most importantly a tour of the 'Erasmus Van' that travelled for 25,000 km, visiting 40 European countries and connecting more than 100 Erasmus a day, tens of thousands of ESN volunteers, Erasmus students from hundreds of universities. Today, one can still read about these iconic celebrations on the European Commission website.

What is important to point out is that none of the successes that ESN achieved over the past years would be possible without the incorporation of ESN as a legal person, and the grounding in Brussels. Not only does an office provide coordination, vision and steering force, but it also enables the recognition and identification of volunteers, sections and national boards in the organisation.

It is not by accident that over these years ESN provided itself, for the first time, with a common visual identity, a new logo and visual elements that made the organisation stand out not only visually, but as an example of modern and dynamic organisational management.

Other important projects, successfully launched in 2005-2007, that would have not been possible without a central office were the ESNsurvey and the ESNcard – both now a well-established reality but over those years a novelty. Furthermore, after a long application process in 2007, ESN gained the status of Candidate Member of the European Youth Forum. Finally, ESN received an accreditation at the Council of Europe European Youth Foundation.

Being registered led to accessing the opportunities of acting as one organisation, while being allowed to receive the necessary funding to this end, by means of grants, donations and sponsoring – all impossible without a bank account and legal accountability.

ESN experienced a great deal of resistance, fear and scepticism to change. Yet, results were to arrive quickly, and adamantly. We worked hard for that, and we do not regret doing so. We all should be extremely proud of what ESN became and achieved. Tremendous work in an office in Brussels created the conditions for the current astounding list of achievements attained by the Erasmus Student Network that last year celebrated its 25th anniversary. May our beloved network, with its power and unity, reach many more anniversaries!

Dal 13 al 15 Novembre la città di Roma ospiterà l’ottava edizione dell’Incontro Culturale Erasmus, organizzato da ESN Italia in collaborazione con le sezioni romane. Quasi 3.000 studenti Erasmus si riuniranno nella capitale per tre giorni all’insegna della cultura, della cucina, della storia e, naturalmente, del divertimento. L’edizione di quest’anno gode del patrocinio della Commissione Europea, dell’ANG e dall’Agenzia Erasmus+ / Indire. ESN Italia ha inoltre rinnovato la convenzione con i Musei in Comune di Roma, gli studenti Erasmus potranno perciò usufruire di prezzi ridotti durante le loro visite nel fine settimana dell'evento.

Fiat Likes U arriva in cinque nuove città europee

 

Prosegue la V tappa del progetto Fiat Likes U. Fino al 14 dicembre gli studenti dell'Università degli studi di Catania e dell'Università degli studi di Palermo, potranno usufruire del servizio di car sharing gratuito offerto dalla nota casa automobilistica.
Il servizio è presente anche presso l'Aarhus University in Danimarca, la University Politechnica di Bucarest in Romania, e l’University of Ljubjana in Slovenia.

Il 15 ottobre scorso, il fiume Calore è esondato lungo moli punti dei suoi argini provocando ingenti danni nella città e nella provincia di Benevento. La popolazione si è subito riversata nelle piazze per cercare di dare una mano a chi ne aveva più bisogno e per ripartire. Tra loro anche tanti studenti Erasmus e i membri della Sezione ESN Maleventum.
#ESNconBenevento è la campagna promossa da ESN Italia ed Erasmus Student Network Benevento - ESN Maleventum per raccogliere fondi a favore della città di Benevento. Basta davvero un piccolo aiuto, scopri come:

ESN Unicatt nasce nel 2011 dalla volontà di 5 ex-erasmus dell’Università Cattolica di aiutare gli studenti stranieri e di continuare a vivere la loro esperienza.

La sezione collabora con prestigiosi partner, quali l’Ufficio Relazione Internazionali o il comune di Milano, e molti volontari hanno attivamente partecipato ad ESN4EXPO, progetto di collaborazione con EXPO Milano. 
Tra gli eventi di punta va menzionata l’Integration Week, con visite della città e attività culturali, oltre ad una giornata in campagna con giochi di rottura degli schemi e di socializzazione, format particolarmente apprezzato da tutte le sezioni italiane e per il quale ESN Unicatt è indubbiamente riconosciuta come pioniera.    --> ESN Italia è l'acronimo di Erasmus Student Network Italia, il livello italiano del network ESN, un'associazione europea di studenti universitari il cui scopo è promuovere e supportare gli scambi internazionali fra studenti, attraverso il principio  "Students Helping Students".

You might have heard that EXPO 2015 is over, but this month Milan is getting even more attention with a Section in the Spotlight for November. Mamma mia, it’s ESN Politecnico Milano!

Founded in 1992, ESN Politecnico Milano is one of the oldest and biggest sections of ESN Italy, with more than 1600 international students and 50 active members. A section of this dimension requires the active participation of all members, and a variety of activities for the incoming students. They succeeded in doing this by dividing their members into different working groups led by a coordinator and a reference board member.

The section is creative and innovative when it comes to organising events. Two of the most original activities the section promotes are “How to Cook”, a course on preparing Italian food supervised by a chef in a professional kitchen, as well as “24x1h”, a 24-hour sport event combined with enjoying music and a barbecue. ESN Politecnico Milano is also proud of their flagship event known as “Crazy Countdown”, an event to celebrate New Year’s Eve. With over 2500 international students in attendance, the celebration consists of a city tour, a dinner and a party. This year the section is preparing the 7th edition of this successful event.

ESN Politecnico Milano shows how a big section can go even bigger with original ideas. Not only do they make sure that the large amount of exchange students in the city enjoys their exchange, but the section also welcomes others to Milan with open arms. Congratulations to ESN Politecnico Milano!

Erasmus and Volunteers' Day 
@EXPO

 

L'11 ottobre ESN Italia, i suoi volontari e gli studenti Erasmus saranno protagonisti di EXPO 2015, per il più grande appuntamento del progetto ESN4EXPO: Mobility as energy for life.

La mattina presso le sale del Padiglione Unione Europea si parlerà di mobilità studentesca e di diritti degli studenti internazionali, assieme a esponenti della Commissione Europea, del MIUR, delle Agenzie Nazionali Erasmus ed altri partner istituzionali. 
Nel pomeriggio ci sarà una tavola rotonda organizzata dal Centro dei Servizi per il Volontariato, mentre alla sera, dopo una flag parade tra Cardo e Decumano, volontari, studenti e turisti comporranno un girotondo attorno all'Albero della Vita, uniti in un abbraccio internazionale all'Italia e ad EXPO Milano 2015.

ESN Italia rientra in SWEP (South West European Platform) che si riunirà a Valencia dal  15 al 18 ottobre, e SEEP (South East European Platform) a Smirne dal 12 al 15 novembre.

Welcome Weeks
 

Ottobre: le sezioni di ESN Italia sono pronte ad accogliere a braccia aperte tutti gli studenti internazionali dedicando loro un’intera settimana. Durante la welcome week ciascuna sezione s’impegna a mostrare agli studenti stranieri le meraviglie della loro nuova città, presentando loro le istituzioni locali e l'università, affinché  possano familiarizzare immediatamente con luoghi e abitudini, gettandosi a capofitto nell’emozionante esperienza Erasmus+.

Nel 1991 a Genova nasce il Gruppo Erasmus Genova che nel 1994 contribuisce a fondare ESN Italia. Unica sezione ligure, GEG-ESN Genova opera a livello locale supportata con grande entusiasmo dall’Ufficio Mobilità Internazionale e recentemente dal Comune di Genova, con cui ha intrapreso una nuova collaborazione.
  Il punto di forza di GEG-ESN Genova è indubbiamente l’efficienza dei vari working teams, costantemente in contatto tra loro per la buona riuscita di tutte le attività. --> ESN Italia è l'acronimo di Erasmus Student Network Italia, il livello italiano del network ESN, un'associazione europea di studenti universitari il cui scopo è promuovere e supportare gli scambi internazionali fra studenti, attraverso il principio  "Students Helping Students".

Erasmus Welcome Days

Anche quest’anno tornano gli Erasmus Welcome Days, uno dei progetti di punta delle sezioni di ESN Italia dal 2010. Due gli scopi principali: presentare la città, l’Università e le attività della sezione locale agli studenti appena arrivati in Italia e nel contempo favorire il confronto tra istituzioni locali, Università, centri di promozione dell’UE e partner privati. I Welcome Days 2015 si svolgeranno dal 20 settembre al 10 ottobre, e coinvolgeranno circa 20.000 studenti stranieri in conferenze, city tour, campus tour e welcome parties…le 49 sezioni italiane sono più pronte che mai!

ESN Bari è la sezione di ESN Italia che si prende cura degli studenti in mobilità presso l’omonimo capoluogo pugliese. Il prezioso sostegno offerto a ciascun Erasmus si traduce, oltre che nel servizio di pick-up all’arrivo e di assistenza nella ricerca di alloggio, nel progetto “Un Erasmus per Amico”, tutoraggio offerto da studenti italiani volto ad integrare gli stranieri nella comunità locale.

L’evento darà ai giovanissimi l’opportunità di conoscere meglio l’organizzazione interna del Network ed i suoi progetti, mentre i partecipanti con più esperienza potranno approfondire tematiche principalmente legate alla mobilità e alle politiche giovanili, grazie all’intervento di relatori provenienti dall’Agenzia Nazionale Erasmus+/Indire, dall’ANG e dall’UniMC.

Il tuo Erasmus con ESN!


Ormai è tutto pronto: l’8 luglio si terrà la prova scritta del concorso indetto da ESN Italia, che coinvolgerà oltre 3000 assegnatari di una borsa di studio Erasmus+ per l’anno accademico 2015/16.

Gli elaborati più creativi saranno premiati con quattro borse di studio dal valore di 500 euro l’una.

Life in Motion sbarca in Portogallo
 

Inizia ufficialmente il tour europeo di Life in Motion, il documentario targato ESN Italia e realizzato in collaborazione con l’Agenzia Nazionale Erasmus+/Indire.

Prima tappa il portoghese FEST - New Directors New Films Festival, dove ESN Italia potrà presentare il progetto presso il Filmmaker’s Corner.

II Piattaforma Nazionale 2015 - Sassari 12-14 giugno UN ANNO DI ATTIVITÁ
  Con la ESN School Nazionale di Macerata si chiuderanno ufficialmente le attività di ESN Italia per l’Anno Accademico 2014-2015. A partire dall’ICE per arrivare all’Evento Nazionale, passando per le Piattaforme Nazionali, l’ESNOne e i numerosissimi eventi organizzati dalle sezioni, anche quest’anno il nostro Network ha dato prova di eccellenza nell’ambito del volontariato giovanile, proseguendo la propria attività a favore degli studenti in mobilità, anche grazie al contributo dei propri partner e alla collaborazione con le istituzioni.

Per il 3° anno consecutivo, Erasmus Student Network italia organizza #IlTuoErasmusConESN, concorso che mette in palio delle Borse di Studio del valore di 500 € l’una e destinate a tutti gli studenti italiani, futuri erasmus, iscritti nelle università dove è presente una sezione ESN.
La novità del 2015 riguarda proprio il numero delle Borse di Studio, che salgono da 3 a 4. Questo perché ai 3 premi messi in palio da ESN Italia se ne è aggiunto un 4°.
Le iscrizioni chiudono il 24 giugno e la prova si terrà, in contemporanea, l’8 luglio alle ore 14:30 presso i vari atenei. Per info scrivere a borsadistudio@esn.it .

Verrà proiettato in anteprima nazionale nel corso del Festival d’Europa, il documentario realizzato da ESN Italia, con il supporto dell’ Agenzia Nazionale Erasmus+/Indire, “Life in Motion.” Girato tra Germania, Francia, Modena e Pescara, il progetto racconta attraverso le storie di Erasmus e soci volontari ESNrs cosa significa oggi essere cittadini europei. Tema centrale la mobilità internazionale quale momento fondamentale per la crescita dei giovani appartenenti alla cosiddetta “Generazione Erasmus.” Quattro storie che raccontano l’Europa di oggi sempre più senza confini.

ESN Italia presente al Festival d’Europa 2015
 

Si svolgerà dal 6 al 9 maggio a Firenze il Festival d’Europa, consueta rassegna di eventi organizzata dall’Agenzia Nazionale Erasmus+/Indire. ESN Italia interverrà presentando l’ultima edizione di Erasmus in Schools e i risultati ottenuti dal progetto che porta la mobilità direttamente nei licei italiani.

Il 1 maggio è stata inaugurata a Milano l’edizione 2015 di EXPO, “Feeding the planet, Energy for life”, dedicata ai temi dell’agricoltura e dell’alimentazione. il primo passo in Europa per i liceali italiani.

Nei licei italiani porte aperte alla mobilità internazionale. Le scuole accolgono nuovamente gli studenti Erasmus. Durerà fino al 21 aprile la nuova edizione di Erasmus in Schools, l’iniziativa promossa da ESN Italia in collaborazione con l’Agenzia Nazionale Erasmus+/Indire, che vedrà nuovamente le 49 sezioni italiane, dislocate su quasi tutto il territorio nazionale e con sede nei principali atenei, diventare parte attiva nel processo di promozione dei programmi di mobilità europea mediante incontri organizzati all’interno delle quarte e quinte superiori in cui gli studenti Erasmus stranieri avranno la possibilità di entrare in contatto per la prima volta con il mondo dei liceali italiani.

Summer Schools @ EXPO2015 Milano-Bicocca

Sono aperte le iscrizioni per le Summer Schools presso l’Università di Milano-Bicocca, dedicate ad EXPO Milano 2015. Saranno 23 i corsi intensivi in lingua inglese, organizzati tra maggio e ottobre, che verteranno sui principali temi dell’esposizione universale. Mov'in Students tra i finalisti per il Premio Carlo Magno

Il progetto Mov'In Students di ESN Italia è l'unico progetto italiano selezionato per la finale del 14 Maggio del Premio Carlo Magno 2015, assegnato ogni anno dal Parlamento Europeo insieme alla Fondazione del premio internazionale Carlo Magno di Aquisgrana. Il progetto intende promuovere tutte le diverse opzioni di mobilità mettendo in contatto gli studenti Erasmus con studenti presenti nelle scuole italiane.
